Coffee: Is the bean healthy?

Coffee enjoyment - as popular as it is - has some problems:

  • Coffee works - starting in the stomach - relatively quickly, but the performance curve also drops very quickly and often violently

  • If you're used to coffee and then don't drink coffee for a few days, it can cause headaches and fatigue

  • Coffee does not suit everyone and often leads to nervousness and inner restlessness

Caffeine content in coffee: how high is it?

The caffeine content in coffee varies depending on the type and method of preparation, but on average a cup of coffee (approx. 237 ml) contains around 95 mg of caffeine. However, some varieties can contain as much as 200 mg of caffeine per cup, while others only have 50 mg or less.

Does matcha have caffeine?

There is also caffeine in matcha – a cup of matcha contains about as much caffeine as an espresso. However, the stimulating effect of matcha caffeine begins more slowly because it is bound to catechin, which is only broken down and released in the intestine. As a result, the effect of matcha lasts much longer.

Is matcha healthier than coffee?

Matcha is often considered healthier than coffee because it has a higher concentration of antioxidants and nutrients. It also contains L-Theanine, an amino acid known for a calm and focused alertness, in contrast to the often faster and more hectic burst of energy that caffeine provides. However, it should be noted that each person may react differently to certain foods and there is no one-size-fits-all answer as to what is best for everyone.

Differences matcha vs. coffee

Matcha tea is considered to be much more digestible and health-friendly than coffee, with the same or better stimulating effect.

The green tea powder contains many valuable ingredients, such as the amino acid L-theanine, which has a calming effect. The result is a natural, alert focus without triggering nervousness or anxiety.

In addition, when enjoying matcha, the body benefits from valuable antioxidants, minerals and vitamins, all of which have a beneficial effect on health.

Matcha tea as a coffee alternative

Matcha tea can be an alternative to coffee as it provides a source of energy similar to coffee and is taken as a stimulant in many cultures. However, matcha contains a lower amount of caffeine than coffee and offers a quieter wakefulness due to the presence of L-theanine.

Matcha Latte as a healthy coffee substitute

Matcha Latte is a green tea-based hot drink made with powdered matcha tea, milk, and the occasional sweetener. It's a popular choice for tea drinkers looking for a milder, creamier alternative to the traditional roasted coffee latte.

Here's a simple matcha latte recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk (whole milk, almond milk, coconut milk, etc.)

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder

  • 1 teaspoon coconut blossom sugar or sweetener to taste (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Heat milk in a saucepan until warm (but not boiling).

  2. Put the matcha powder and optional coconut blossom sugar in a cup.

  3. Pour the warm milk into the cup and stir well with a whisk or slotted spoon until the matcha powder is completely dissolved.

  4. Decorate with foam and, if necessary, additionally with cinnamon.
